Track and Field Racks Up Program Marks and PRs at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University outdoor track and field teams traveled down to William and Mary University for the 60th Annual Colonial Relays on Friday for day one of the event.

TRACK RECAP

In the sprints, Roman Bernard and Wyatt Newcome ran in the 200m and 400m for the men. Bernard ran a 48.74 in the 400m, placing fourth in the 43-man field and earning the second-best mark all-time for SU. Newcome also set a PR in the 400m at 52.06. In the 200m, Newcome finished 19th at 22.84, and Bernard came in soon after at 22.98 for 22nd.

Ruth McGhee sprinted her way to personal records in the 100m and 200m for the women. The first-year ran a 12.60 in the 100m, which is fourth all-time for SU, while becoming third all-time for the program in the 200m with a 25.88.

Myah Powell-Utley also ran in the 100m, crossing the line at 12.77, which is sixth all-time for the Hornets.

Over in the women's 800m, Grace Semow placed 13th at 2:19.26, which is now second all-time for SU. Amy Oleksy crossed the finish line nearly five seconds later at 2:24.11 for 21st, and Emily Bultema ran a 2:34.17 for 32nd. Oleksy and Semow represented the Hornets in the 1,500m. Oleksy set a PR at 5:00.64 and Semow finished the race at 5:09.08.

In the men's 800m, Kyle Corpin finished first out of the SU runners at 1:59.85, just cracking into the program's top-10. Nathan Lee came in right behind his teammate at 2:01.09. The duo also ran in the 1,500m race. Corpin set another PR in the 1,500m with a mark of 4:11.07, and Lee ran a 4:24.05.

In the men's 3,000m steeplechase, Caleb Beiswenger placed ninth with a mark of 10:31.40.

Will Ashley broke his personal best in the men's 5,000m with a time of 15:33.30, placing him fifth all-time for the Hornets. Brayden Shotwell ran a 16th-place showing in the men's 10,000m, which was the final race of the day, with a mark of 33:30.85.

Over in the women's 10,000m event, Maddy Chorney wrapped up in 10th, finishing the distance event at 40:27.74.

FIELD RECAP

Mekhi Mims is the only field athlete to compete for the Hornets this weekend. Mims started his day at high jump with a 1.89 jump, putting him fifth. Then in the javelin, the graduate student placed 12th with a throw of 38.10m.

The Hornets' sprint medley relay teams compete tomorrow in the final day of the Colonial Relays.
