Game Recap: Baseball | | Matt McIntosh '23

Baseball's Season Ends in Regional Championship

WINCHESTER, Va. - The 2026 season for the No. 7 Shenandoah University baseball program came to an end on Sunday as they were defeated twice by Messiah University in the championship of the Winchester Regional in the 2026 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

The Falcons (36-13) advance to the Super Regionals after winning 4-3 in game six of the regional and 13-0 in the winner-take-all game seven versus the Hornets (37-12).

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME ONE RECAP

The Falcons loaded the bases in the first with one out, but Michael Meyers (3-3) struck out the final two batters of the inning, keeping the game scoreless. However, Messiah loaded the bases once again in the second and took advantage with a three-run frame.

Trailing 3-0 in the second, Dillon Mauzy got the first hit of the day for SU with a solo home run to right field. In the next inning, a single by Christian Carver and bunts from Kyle Garrett and Carl Keenan loaded the bases for SU with no outs. The Hornets were only able to get one run in the third off a sacrifice fly from Adham Sahebzadah.

Messiah carried a 3-2 lead into the fifth before adding an insurance run with two outs in the frame. Anthony Arrichiello pitched the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings for SU and kept the Falcons from scoring.

The Hornets cut the deficit down to one in the seventh as Keenan hit an RBI double to score Garrett.

Entering the ninth, the score remained 4-3 in favor of Messiah. Jacob Gilbert pitched the inning for SU and retired the Falcons in nine pitches. Shenandoah put the tying and go-ahead run on base in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to score as the Falcons forced the "if necessary" game.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TWO RECAP

Messiah was the home team in the contest after winning the previous game, despite the game being played on Shenandoah's field.

Jaime Padilla led off the game with a double to right center and moved to third on a Kyle Garrett single. The Hornets were unable to capitalize after the two leadoff hits and didn't score in the first. Messiah responded with a four-run first inning.

A walk to Adham Sahebzadah and singles from Christian Carver and Kemper Omps loaded the bases for Shenandoah in the second, bringing the tying run to the plate. Shenandoah once again was unable to score. The Falcons put up two more runs in the bottom of the second for a 6-0 lead.

Messiah scored in five of the next seven innings for the 13-0 lead. The game marked the first time Shenandoah was shut out since February 2024.
