Keller Ties Record, Team Loses

WINCHESTER, Va. - Susquehanna University scored five of the first six goals of the game to help the Crusaders to a 7-5 non-conference victory over host Shenandoah at Shentel Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Susquehanna (1-1) took a lead it would not relinquish when Matt Miceli opened the scoring at the 10:41 mark of the first with an unassisted tally. The Crusaders would expand this lead to 3-0 before Shenandoah (0-2) got on the board with 11:32 left in the second on a Michael West (Lutherville, Md./Towson) goal off of a feed from senior Chris Keller (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg).

Keller's assist was one of three he had for the game; he is now tied with Shawn Scattergood '00 for the all-time points lead at Shenandoah. Keller should break the record of 152 points on Saturday in the Hornets Pennsylvania Athletic Conference opener against College Misericordia.

The hosts got back into it during a rainy third quarter. Down 5-1 at the half, Shenandoah scored the first three goals of the second half to cut the deficit to just one at 5-4 with 7:37 remaining in the third. Unfortunately, two Susquehanna goals sandwiched around the end of the period spelled the end of the Hornets comeback thoughts.

Keller and Elmer Baker (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill) both had three points for Shenandoah while Scott Hodgson, Andy Nadler and Dan St. Ours all matched that output for the visitors. Hodgson, Miceli and Baker's three points came on two goals and one assist each.
