GREENSBORO, N.C. - Guilford College used five goal spurt in the first half to propel the Quakers to a 10-8 decision over Shenandoah in both teams season opener Sunday afternoon.

GC (1-0) netted the only two goals of the first quarter and tallied three more times in the second to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.

Shenandoah (0-1) got three goals from junior Elmer Baker (Fort Montgomery, N.Y./O'Neill) in the game's final 3:23, but it was not enough as the hosts had taken 8-4 lead into the last fifteen minutes of play.

Baker finished with a co-game high four goals while senior Chris Keller (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) moved two points closer to the all-time scoring record at SU with a goal and an assist. Keller now needs five points to pass Sean Scattergood '00 for the top spot all time list.

Senior Jeff Paolozzi (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) won seven of 13 faceoffs to help the Hornets to a 11-9 advantage at the 'x'.
