TARBORO, N.C. – Top seeded Chowan built a 10-0 lead in two innings and went on to a 17-0 victory over Shenandoah in five innings in the first round of the Dixie Conference softball tournament Thursday afternoon.
Freshman Tori Flint went 4-4 with a pair of doubles to pace the Braves. Melissa Buzzell was 3-4 with three RBIs and Meryah Breeden went 2-4 with four runs scored and an RBI.
Chowan took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Jodi Milburn singled for the Hornets.
Chowan, now 23-9 will meet Averett at 11 a.m. Friday, while Shenandoah, now 3-20, meets Greensboro in the losers' bracket at 7 p.m. Thursday.
