TARBORO, N.C. – The SU softball team was eliminated on day one from the 2003 Dixie Conference Tournament at the Indian Lakes Sports Complex after losing 17-0 to top seeded Chowan and 6-0 to No. 5 Greensboro College.
Shenandoah (3-21) was hitless in the Chowan game until junior Jodi Milburn (Winchester, Va./Sherando) singled in the top of the fifth. This would prove to be the squad's only hit of the game and the contest was halted following the fifth inning due to the NCAA 10-run rule.
SU was much more competitive in the Greensboro game; GC took the game with two run rallies in the first, third and fourth innings. Rebecca Ashley did most of the damage; she was 2 for 3 with three RBI that came on a two-run single in the first and a triple two innings later.
Gina Riemenschneider (Winchester, Va./James Wood) had two hits in this second game while Erin West (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) and Chasity Horn (Buena Vista, Va./Parry McCluer) each added one.
