WINCHESTER, Va. - NC Wesleyan dashed host Shenandoah University's hopes for a Dixie Conference victory this season by taking a doubleheader Sunday afternoon 5-1 and 13-4.
Shenandoah (3-17, 0-14) completed its 2003 conference slate with the two contests; SU will enter the 2003 Dixie Tournament from April 17-19 as the No. 8 seed.
Game one was the closest conference game that Shenandoah has played all season long; Wesleyan (7-22, 3-7) used three runs on the third and two more in the fifth to gain the victory.
The Hornets attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh when Katey Wilson (Amissville, Va./Rappahannock County) led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and then scored when Jodi Milburn (Winchester, Va./Sherando) doubled to left. Unfortunately, the rally ended here.
The Lady Bishops scored seven runs in the first inning of game two to finish off their hosts virtually before the game started. NCWC finished the game with 19 hits, seven of these came in its initial at-bat.
Gina Riemenschneider (Winchester, Va./James Wood), Nikki Braithwaite (Winchester, Va./James Wood), Shea Riemenschneider (Winchester, Va./James Wood) and Wilson all had two hits in the second game.
