NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Shenandoah led early in both softball games at USA South rival CNU Saturday afternoon, but the Lady Captains regrouped quickly and swept the Hornets, 10-2 and 11-1.
The Hornets (3-10 overall, 0-6 USA South) went up 1-0 in both contests but Christopher Newport's (16-4, 3-1) hot bats proved to be too strong down the stretch.
In the first game, Shenandoah took a 1-0 lead when Jodi Milburn (Winchester, Va./Lord Fairfax CC) was hit by a pitch to bring home leadoff hitter Teresa Prezzy (Winchester, Va./James Wood).
The Lady Captains would not trail for long, however, as CNU registered five unearned runs in two innings and another four in the third to put the game out of reach at 9-2.
Shenandoah suffered a case of deja vu in the second game when freshman Carrie Harris (Front Royal, Va./Warren Co.) drove in Prezzy to give the Hornets another 1-0 lead, but this time SU would hold CNU scoreless after the first inning.
Unfortunately, the Lady Captains touched Shenandoah pitching for 11 unanswered runs in the subsequent two innings including a third inning where CNU scored eight runs on only three hits.

Shenandoah will be back on its home diamond tomorrow afternoon for a double-header against the Lady Pride of USA South opponent Greensboro College.Â
