FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington College banged out a combined 22 hits to defeat Shenandoah University 10-2 and 13-2 in a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.
MWC (10-13) won both games in five innings over the Hornets (5-18).
In game one, the Eagles scored four runs in the second and four more in the fifth to invoke the NCAA shortened-game rule while also holding SU to two runs on five hits.
Mary Washington's offense really kicked into gear in the nightcap; they plated at least two runs in each of their four at-bats to cruise to the victory.
Freshman Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W. Va./East Hardy) provided a bright spot in game two with a 3 for 3 performance than also included a run batted in.Â
Senior Shea Riemenschneider (Winchester, Va./James Wood) had the Hornets only extra base hit in game one when she tripled down the rightfield line. Unfortunately for the visitors, Riemenschneider was cut down at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch.

Shenandoah is up again tomorrow afternoon with a non-league doubleheader at Gallaudet University.
