WINCHESTER, Va. - The SU softball team was unable to continue its winning ways Tuesday as Ferrum College swept a USA South Conference doubleheader 15-1 and 7-2.

Shenandoah (2-5 overall, 0-4 USA South) had won two of three games heading into its home opener today against the Lady Panthers (4-6, 2-0). Unfortunately for the hosts, FC scored three runs in its first at-bat of the afternoon and cruised to its first two conference victories of the season.

The Hornets were held to just four hits in game one; freshman Teresa Prezzy (Winchester, Va./James Wood) was 2 for 3 while Kimberly Hill (St. Paul, Va./Emory & Henry) and Shea Riemenschneider (Winchester, Va./James Wood) had the others.

Ferrum had 14 hits of its own in the opening win with Kristina Wilhelm going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and Lindsay Cox, Stacy Porter, Trica Moore all getting two hits apiece.

Kim Cox earned the win by giving up one run on three hits and striking out five in five innings of work.

Shenandoah was much more competitive in game two, but the Panthers broke open a close game by scoring six runs in the top of the sixth inning. Jenny Purdue, Porter and Lindsay Etherton all had two hits in the nightcap.

Purdue also knocked in two runs while Porter earned the victory on the mound with a complete game performance that featured 10 strikeouts.

Gina Riemenschneider (Winchester, Va./James Wood) had two of the Hornets three hits in the second game and she also had an RBI.
