Softball Extends Win Streak to Three with Sweep

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah's softball team extended its recent winning streak to three games with its first sweep in a double-header this season, 12-1 and 16-4, against local non-league foe Christendom.

The Hornets' (8-21 overall) eight wins is the most since the 8-19 campaign in 1997, and improves their mark to 3-0 all-time against the Crusaders (0-6).

SU rattled-off 12 unanswered runs in the first three innings of the opening game before starter Gina Riemenschneider (Winchester, Va./James Wood) allowed Christendom to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Riemenschneider gave up just one run in four hits in four innings of work before Ginger Burket (Aylett, Va./King William) came on in the fifth to close out the win.

Six of the Hornets' batters had multiple hits in the game and were led by senior Jodi Milburn (Winchester, Va./Lord Fairfax CC) who finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The second game was an even larger barrage than the first with SU jumping out to a 9-1 lead after two innings behind more prolific hitting and an excellent showing by starting pitcher Kim Hill (St. Paul, Va./Emory & Henry).

The Crusaders were relatively back in the game for a brief period when they scored three runs in the top of the third, but Shenandoah's bats refused to cool and the Hornets tallied seven more unanswered runs for the huge win.

In a game where every SU batter registered at least one hit, Riemenschneider and Milburn stood out once again. Riemenschneider finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI while Milburn was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
