FREDERICK, Md. - The softball team ran its winning streak to five games Wednesday afternoon with a 1-0 and 13-4 non-league sweep over Hood College.

Shenandoah (10-21) reached the double digit mark in wins with the two victories; this guarantees the squad its best record since the 1992 team went 16-12 and tied for the Eastern States Athletic Conference (ESAC) title.

The five-game win streak is also the longest since Shenandoah became a university in 1991.

The Hornets got the win in game one when sophomore Gina Riemenschneider (Winchester, Va./James Wood) made a single run in the top of the first hold up by pitching the first shutout for the program since a 15-0 victory over Kenyon on March 6, 1998.

Riemenschneider scattered three hits and one walk while striking out five in the complete game performance. She retired the Blazers (8-7) in order in two of the last three innings and allowed just one runner to reach third all game long.

Freshman Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W. Va./East Hardy) scored the game's only run when she singled to left, advanced to third on a single by Carrie Harris (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) and came home on a passed ball.

SU banged out 13 hits in the game two win - the Hornets scored two runs in the second and third before getting what would prove to be the winning run in a three run fourth.

Shortstop Melissa Landon (Goldsboro, Md./North Caroline) drove in a game high five runs; she keyed a six run sixth with a grand slam home run to center.

Riemenschneider got her second win of the day by giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks in six innings.
