Hornets Sting Alvernia

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team completed its 2004 season in style Saturday afternoon with a 16-5 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference victory over Alvernia College.

Shenandoah (3-9 overall, 2-4 PAC) snapped a six-game losing streak by scoring the first eight goals of the game against the Crusaders (0-12, 0-6).

Senior James Hernandez (Blue Ridge Summit, Pa./HCC) led this offensive charge with three of his game high five goals on the afternoon. Hernandez celebrated his final game in an SU uniform with eight points while freshman Sam Johnson (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) added four goals and two assists.

The Hornets led 3-0 after one and 8-0 when Alvernia's Chris Schnell broke the eight goal run with an unassisted tally just 94 seconds before halftime. AC got the first goal of the third, at 11:34 by Chris Kanauss, before Shenandoah scored four of the next five to put the game out of reach.

SU senior goalkeeper JD Killian finished the game with 10 saves and moved into second place on the all-time list with 344. Killian passed Dave Behan '02 for the spot. A complete box score and play by play for this game can be found at http://www.su.edu/athletics/mlax/2004/050104.htm

Shenandoah finishes its third PAC season in fifth place out of seven schools. Alvernia, in its first year of PAC competition, finished seventh.
