WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University got the first two victories of the
Marlena Kotynski era in fine fashion Wednesday afternoon - the softball Hornets swept visiting Hood College 13-1 and 13-0 in non-conference play.
Shenandoah (2-2) got a combined 26 hits in the doubleheader sweep of the Blazers (0-2). SU pitchers
Alyssa Chapman,
Tana Bartek and
Catelyn Renninger surrendered just six hits to Hood in gaining the first two wins of the season.
SU made quick work of the Blazers in both games - the Hornets scored four runs in the first inning of game one and five in their first at-bat of the nightcap.
Freshman
Jessica Bollinger did the most damage as she backed up a 3 for 3, 3 RBI performance in the opener with a 2 for 4, 3 RBI outing in game two. She missed the first cycle in school history by just a home run in game one and added a game two triple.
All but two of the nine women who batted in both games had at least one hit -
Teresa Prezzy and Chapman matched Bollinger's five combined hits while
Sheryl Wilson,
Kristin Windle and
Carrie Harris all had at least two hits.
Renninger (1-1) scattered four hits in game two to earn the shutout victory and Bartek made her first decision of the spring a win when she pitched two innings of shutout relief in game one.
