WINCHESTER, Va. - Randolph Macon College shook off a slow start Thursday afternoon to defeat homestanding Shenandoah University 16-4 in non-conference men's lacrosse action.
Shenandoah (1-2) took a quick 2-0 lead after freshmanÂ
Stephen Mayorscored at both the 11:55 and 11:15 marks of the first, but the Yellow Jackets (3-2) had an answer.
After Brendan Toone got R-MC on the board off of a Paul Johnsen assist at the 10:07 mark, the Jackets began to take control. Toone tied the game with an unassisted goal 42 seconds after his first tally, and the Jackets never trailed again.
Macon would score the next seven goals of the game, eventually leading 9-2 before Mayor snapped a better than 30 minute scoreless streak with a goal off of aÂ
Sam Johnson feed at the 10:06 mark of the third.
SU would get now closer than this six-goal deficit, as the Jackets then reeled off the next five goals of the game to erase all doubt.
Jim Dress led all scorers with three goals and four assists for Macon while PC Johnsen and Tyler Watkins each had three. Mayor topped the Hornets in the scoring column for the third straight game with three goals. He now has 12 on the young season.
Mark Verilli made 16 saves in his first start for SU.
