Greensboro Sweeps Softball

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Greensboro College sent visiting Shenandoah down to its second straight USA South Conference doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon with 8-0 and 3-2 victories over the Hornets.

After the Pride (16-5, 5-2 USA South) stopped Shenandoah (3-5, 0-4 USA South) in the middle of the sixth innings of game one, the two teams needed two extra innings in the nightcap.

Tied at 1-1 after seven innings, SU and GC each scored one run in the eighth before the Hornets' Tana Bartek was cut down at the plate with one out in the ninth.

The Pride got the game winning run when Jennifer Sherrill plated Lauren Engle with a single to leftfield. Engle started the inning on second base as per the NCAA tie-breaker rule.

Freshman Natalie Tull had two of Shenandoah's five hits in the game and also drove in one run with a fifth inning single to left.

SU had just two hits in game one - freshmen Sheryl Wilson and Jessica Bollinger had a singles in the second and third innings, respectively.
