WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshman
Alyssa Chapman led the Shenandoah University softball team to a doubleheader split at Catholic University Thursday night by throwing the second no-hitter in school history.
Shenandoah (5-9) won game one 2-0 as Chapman tossed the gem in the opener. She struck out five, but missed the bid for a perfect game by walking one and having three SU errors.
Chapman (3-3) retired the Cardinals in order in the 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th while also inducing an inning ending double play in the 2nd.
Offensively, the Hornets got all of the runs they would need in the top of the first. After
Sheryl Wilson led off the game with a pop fly to short,
Kristin Windle and advanced to second on
Teresa Prezzy's groundout.
Tana Bartek then drove in Wilson with a single to left.
Shenandoah added an insurance run in the fifth when Windle drove in
Tarrah Armstrong with an infield single. Armstrong had led off the frame with a double off the centerfield wall.
Unfortunately, Catholic scored three runs in each of the first two innings of the nightcap to key a 7-3 victory. Wilson,
Jessica Bollinger and
Natalie Tullall had two hits in the second game with Armstrong driving in two runs from her designated player spot.
Catelyn Renninger took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in one inning of action. Bartek gave up the final four runs in five innings of relief pitching.

It was also announced Friday morning that Saturday's scheduled doubleheader with Methodist has been moved to Monday at 3:00 due to the impending bad weather forecast for the northern Shenandoah Valley. The Hornets next contest is on Sunday in a 1:00 doubleheader against USA South foe NC Wesleyan.
