WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University was unable to extend its season long four-game winning streak Sunday afternoon as Christopher Newport University swept SU, 3-1 and 12-4, in USA South Conference softball play.

Shenandoah (9-15, 1-13 USA South) hurt itself by committing a combined seven errors in the two games. The miscues led to 11 of the Captains (20-16, 7-7 USA South) 15 runs being unearned.

Freshman Tana Bartek (2-6) pitched very well in game one - she allowed 10 hits but just the three runs (two earned) while striking out three. CNU got a lead it would not relinquish with a single run in the fourth before adding an insurance run in the sixth.

Bartek also provided the offense when she drove in the Hornets only run with a third inning single to left.

The defense completely deserted freshman Catelyn Renninger (3-4) in the nightcap - seven SU errors led to 10 earned runs. Eight of these runs came in the sixth as Christopher Newport sent 15 batters to the plate, scored nine times and saw Shenandoah commit four errors.

Renninger allowed 10 hits and walked three while striking out two.

Freshman Jessica Bollinger and sophomore Alicia Sanders each had two hits in three plate appearances for the hosts.
