HARRISONBURG, Va. - Shenandoah University came close, but Eastern Mennonite pulled out a non-conference softball sweep Tuesday evening with 7-6 and 5-3 victories.
Shenandoah (9-17) led game one 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning only to see EMU (12-11) score seven runs on five hits and two Hornets errors.
All seven of the Royals runs in that game were unearned, making a hard luck loser of freshmanÂ
Catelyn Renninger (3-5). Renninger had one strikeout and no walks - she scattered nine EMU hits but was victimized by three crucial errors.
FreshmanÂ
Kristin Windle had two of Shenandoah's five hits while classmateÂ
Jessica Bollinger continued her hot hitting with one hit and two runs batted in.
There were just nine total hits in game two - five by the Royals and four by the Hornets. PitcherÂ
Tana Bartek (2-7) was 1 for 2 with an RBI at the plate but took the loss after Eastern Mennonite once again erased an early SU lead.
Shenandoah had a 3-0 advantage after scoring two runs in the second and one more in the third on a combined three hits, but the Royals got two in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Bartek had six strikeouts in the losing effort.
