WINCHESTER, Va. - Wesley College had a dominating first 15 minutes Saturday afternoon to run past host Shenandoah 18-9 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action.
Wesley (6-5, 4-1 PAC) opened up a 7-1 lead after the first period against Shenandoah (4-7, 2-3 PAC) and coasted to the victory. WC led 12-3 at the half and 15-5 heading into the fourth only to see the Hornets score four of the game's final five goals.
The win gives the Wolvernies no worse than the No. 3 seed at the PAC tournament beginning May 4. The winner of the Wesley/Villa Julie game on April 30 will be the No. 2 seed and will get to host a first-round game.
SU can still qualify for its first tournament with a win on April 30 against Neumann College. Should the Hornets win that contest, they would face likely regular season champion Cabrini College in the other tournament semi-final.
Wesley outshot Shenandoah 44-32 for the game, including 16-2 in the pivotal first quarter. They also held a slight advantage in face-offs, 19-13, and were a perfect 20 for 20 in clears.
Shenandoah did win the groundball battle 50-46.
Mark Shakle had six goals and Dean Evans four for the victors.Â
Stephen Mayor led the Hornets with four whileÂ
Martin Carlson had five assists.
