RALEIGH, N.C. - Christopher Newport University ended the Shenandoah University softball team's impressive run at the USA South Conference Tournament Saturday night with a 7-4 victory.
For SU (11-21) it was the furthest the team had ever advanced in the program's 12 previous softball tournaments.
CNU (23-17) got the victory on the strength of a four-run seventh. Leading 3-1 heading into the final frame, the Lady Captains got four runs on five hits to take a 7-1 lead.
The Hornets answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, but it could not complete the comeback.Â

Catelyn Renninger (3-7) took the loss after giving up one run on five hits in 3.0 innings of work. She also struck out one.
