RALEIGH, N.C. - Christopher Newport University ended the Shenandoah University softball team's impressive run at the USA South Conference Tournament Saturday night with a 7-4 victory.

For SU (11-21) it was the furthest the team had ever advanced in the program's 12 previous softball tournaments.

CNU (23-17) got the victory on the strength of a four-run seventh. Leading 3-1 heading into the final frame, the Lady Captains got four runs on five hits to take a 7-1 lead.

The Hornets answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, but it could not complete the comeback. 

Sheryl Wilson, Alyssa Chapman, Heather Kepple and Teresa Prezzyeach had two hits for Shenandoah.

Freshman Catelyn Renninger (3-7) took the loss after giving up one run on five hits in 3.0 innings of work. She also struck out one.
