WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its 2005 softball season Monday evening with 8-0 and 23-1 victories over Christendom College. Both games were halted after five innings due to the NCAA mercy rule.
FreshmanÂ
Alyssa Chapman just missed her second no-hitter of the season in the game one victory for the Hornets (13-23). Chapman (5-6) allowed just the game's leadoff hitter, Elli Ampi, to hit safely before working through the rest of the contest without giving up another hit.
Chapman struck out nine while walking just one. She faced just three batters over the minimum and retired the final 13 Crusaders in order.
She also led the offense with a 3 for 3 day that included two RBI. Her first inning triple to left center platedÂ
Kristin Windle with what proved to be the game-winning run.
Game two was a hit fest for the Hornets - they banged out 19 hits and 18 RBI in the 23-1 victory. CoachÂ
Marlena Kotynski's squad batted around in every inning but the third and eight of nine batters got at least one hit in the contest.
Heather Kepple, who was 3 for 3 with two RBI in game one, was 4 for 5 with another two RBI in the nightcap. Chapman andÂ
Tana Bartek each had three hits whileÂ
Sheryl Wilson,Â
Natalie Tull andÂ
Teresa Prezzy all had two.
Catelyn Renninger (4-8) got the game two victory after scattering five hits and one unearned run in the complete game performance. She walked one and struck out six.
