WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University and NC Wesleyan staged an offensive onslaught on Sunday afternoon in their USA South Conference doubleheader, but it was the Bishops that came out on top as they swept the two games.
Wesleyan (15-12, 5-5 USA South) opened the day with a 7-6 win in 11 innings before coming back to win game two 12-8.
Shenandoah (5-11, 1-9 USA South) had its chances; the Hornets led game two 8-7 after a six-run fourth but could not hold the lead.
The two teams combined for 46 hits in the two games - 25 for the Lady Bishops and 21 for SU. Jennifer Sutton had four hits on the day for NC Wesleyan, which had nine different players get at least one hit in the two games.

Tana Bartek had a combined five hits for the Hornets; she was 3 for 5 in game one and 2 for 4 in game two whileÂ

Jessica Bollinger each had three hits. Bollinger also drove in one run in both games.
Bartek (1-3) was the hard-luck loser in game one - she went all 11 innings and gave up seven runs (four earned) on 13 hits and one walk. Bartek also struck out a career high 15 batters in the game.
Wesleyan got the game one victory when Lettie Lawrence scored on catcher Katie Dunavant's one-out single to left. Lawrence started the inning on second by international tie-breaker rule and was sacrificed to third by Carter Batts.
Shenandoah went in order in the bottom of the 11th.
Game two was a back and forth affair that saw the Lady Bishops bolt out to 7-2 lead in the fourth and then SU answer with six runs on five hits and three Wesleyan errors in the bottom of the inning.
Unfortunately for the hosts, NCWC plated five runs in its next at-bat and cruised to the four-run victory.

Alyssa Chapman (3-4) took the loss after giving up all 12 runs on 12 hits and three walks. Reliever Tracey Hopkins improved to 5-3 by pitching the final four innings of the contest for the Bishops.
