GREENSBORO, N.C. - Guilford College remained unbeaten on its 2006-07 men's basketball season with a 70-58 non-conference victory over visiting Shenandoah University Monday night.
The Quakers (7-0) won the first-ever matchup between the two schools by jumping out to a 37-24 halftime advantage and then holding on against SU (3-4).  Shenandoah was able to outscore its hosts 34-33 in the final 20 minutes, but could get no closer than five points during the half. The Hornets closed the gap to five on three occasions, the last following aÂ
Moutkar Fawehinmi jumper with 2:23 remaining, but GC scored the game's next five points to cruise home to the victory.
After shooting a season-high 49 percent in Saturday's win over Mary Washington, SU was able to connect on just 22 of 65 attempts (33.8 percent) Monday evening. Four of the five starters for coachÂ
Robert Harris did hit in double figures, led by sophomoreÂ
Lenzie Adams'Â 14, but Guilford's 45 percent shooting and eight three-pointers proved too much to overcome.
In addition to Adams' 14, Fawehinmi had 12,Â
Jeremiah Lawrence 11 with 13 rebounds andÂ
Onyie Onunaku 10 for the Hornets.Â
It was also announced before the game that Fawehinmi was named USA South Conference Player of the Week. He is the second consecutive SU player to be honored.
Jordan Snipes had 19 for the hosts.
