FROSTBURG, Md. - Freshman
Catherine Beuerle had a combined five hits Monday afternoon as the SU softball team split a non-league doubleheader with host Frostburg State.
Shenandoah (8-14) came back to win game two 5-1 after the Bobcats (6-8) were 3-2 winners in the opener.
Beuerle led the Hornets to that game two win with a 4-for-4 performance that included two doubles and a home run. The HR, her second of the year, plated the final three runs of the game.
Beuerle scored the first run of the game in the fourth when she led off with a double and came home on
Tana Bartek's double to left. Those two women combined two innings later to register the game-winning run - Bartek drove home Beuerle with single to center after Beuerle led off the frame with a double to center.
Beuerle's classmate,
Katie Haskins, earned the win after scattering six hits in the complete game outing. Haskins (5-6) struck out five and walked three.
FSU got win in the opener by breaking a 1-1 tie with one run in the fourth and another in the fifth. SU scored a single run on a
Sheryl Wilson double in the seventh, but Wilson was stranded on second when the game ended.
Beuerle was 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and an RBI in game one.
