ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount University used a strong start Saturday night to its non-conference men's lacrosse match with visiting Shenandoah to propel itself to a 13-6 victory at Wakefield High School.

Marymount (2-2) led 4-2 after one and 8-2 by the half to send Shenandoah (0-1) to defeat in the Hornets 2006 season opener.

MU scored two of the three third quarter goals before the two teams each scored three times in the final 15 minutes of play.

Sophomore Stephen Mayor led SU with four goals and one assist while junior Martin Carlson had a goal and two assists. Shenandoah's final goal came from senior attackman Paul Evancoe.

Sophomore keeper Mark Verrilli had 11 saves, but it was not enough as the Saints outshot their visitors 26-22. SU did edge Marymount 28-27 in groundballs.
