Men Complete Blazer Sweep

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team matched its female counterparts Wednesday night with a 24-3 non-league victory over visiting Hood College. Earlier in the day, the SU women defeated the Hood women by exactly the same score.

The win is the second straight for the Hornets (2-7) and came on a record-setting evening. Senior Paul Evancoe set a new school mark with 13 points -he had six goals and seven assists against the Blazers (0-7).

Shenandoah dominated in every aspect of the game; they outshot Hood 48-20, grabbed 61 of the game's 93 groundballs and were 5 for 6 on extra-man opportunities.

The Blazers, who scored two goals in the second and one in the fourth, were 0 for 7 on EMO and saw their hosts win 20 of 28 face-offs. Sophomore Ben Page led SU at the 'x' with a 12 for 15 evening.

Although it took the Hornets nearly nine minutes to score their first goal, they led 5-0 after one and 16-2 by halftime. After Hood made it 8-2 on an unassisted goal by Will Oconis at 9:57 of the second, Shenandoah reeled off the next 15 goals to take a 23-2 lead with 10:49 remaining in the contest.

Six different men scored at least one point during this run, including the first-ever goal by sophomore long stick midfielder Ray Rice.

Evancoe led all scorers with his 13 points while Stephen Mayor added eight goals and two assists, Page six goals and Justin Ratcliff two goals and two assists.

Oconis had two goals and Jason Hovermale one for HC.
