FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The University of Mary Washington celebrated its softball senior day Tuesday afternoon by sweeping visiting Shenandoah 3-2 and 6-2 in non-league action.

Mary Washington (26-14) banged out nine hits in game one and six in the nightcap to down the Hornets (14-25). 

Tied 2-2 after Shenandoah scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning in game one, the Eagles pushed across the game-winner in the bottom of the fifth on an unearned run. Cathy Hull was hit by a pitch two batters into the frame, advanced to second and third on a sacrifice and fielder's choice, and then came home on Erin Rantz' 45th career double. 

Ashley Ballentine tied the game for SU in the fourth on when she drove home Tana Bartek with a single. Alicia Sanders , who was named to the USA South Conference All-Tournament team over the weekend, scored the first run of the frame on third baseman Ashley Sifer's two base error.

SU held a 2-0 lead in the nightcap on a double by Catherine Beuerle and a Katie Haskins single, but UMW scored two in the fifth and four in the fifth to complete the sweep.

Beuerle, Kristen Templeton and Kristin Windle all had two hits for the visitors in game two.
