WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University got a
Justin Ratcliff man-up goal midway through the fourth quarter to secure an 8-7 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men's lacrosse victory over visiting Neumann College Saturday afternoon.
In a game that featured four ties and three lead changes, Shenandoah (1-7, 1-3 PAC) finally clinched the win with 6:23 left on Ratcliff's unassisted tally.
With the Knights (2-6, 0-4) Peter Vaisanen in the box for a slashing penalty, SU sophomore
Teddy Rogers drove from behind the cage but was stuffed by NC keeper Mike McCauley. The rebound bounced right to Ratcliff on the doorstep, who scooped and shot the ball in one motion to give the Hornets what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Ratcliff's extra-man goal was the hosts fourth in eight chances on the day - Neumann was penalized eight times for 6:30. Two of Shenandoah's first three goals came on the extra man as SU had a 3-0 lead by the 6:57 mark of the first.
The Knights finally snapped this run with a Ryan McCauley goal with 5:24 left, and they scored the next three goals of the contest to take 4-3 lead with 8:16 to play in the second. From this point on, the two teams stayed within one goal of one another until senior
Paul Evancoe scored another man-up at the 12:05 mark of the fourth. This goal was also the hosts second in a 20 second span.
Sophomore
Stephen Mayor led all scorers with three goals and two assists while Evancoe and one and two. Ryan McCauley, Nate Eber and Nick Schall had two goals each for NC.
