WINCHESTER, Va. - Greensboro College held homestanding Shenandoah to a combined seven hits Sunday afternoon in sweeping a USA South Conference softball doubleheader 8-0 and 9-3.

Greensboro (26-11, 11-3 USA South) made short work of the Hornets in the opener with four runs in the second and four more in the fourth. The Pride banged out 10 hits in those two frames, including six in the second inning.

Meanwhile, GC starter Kristen Slade held Shenandoah (12-20, 2-10) without a hit for the first 3.1 innings – junior Alicia Sanders finally broke through for the hosts with her single up the middle with one out in the fourth. Unfortunately, Sanders made the final out of the frame when she was cut on the plate trying to score on Katie Haskins' single to right field.

Greensboro had four players with two hits apiece and was led by designated player Ashley Pennington's 2-for-3 showing that included three RBI. She drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with her second inning double to center that plated catcher Margaret Hamm.

Sophomore Tana Bartek (3-8) took the loss after allowing the eight runs on 10 hits and two walks. She struck out four.

Slade (8-3) allowed just the three fourth inning hits to earn the shutout victory.

The Pride also had 10 hits in the nightcap as they scored the first nine runs of the contest. The Hornets answered a four-run GC sixth with three in the bottom half of the frame; SU took advantage of three GC errors combined with two hits to score the three runs.

Freshman Kristen Templeton was 2-for-3 in the nightcap and drove in one of those sixth inning runs.

Four of the nine runs allowed by Haskins (9-8) in her five innings of work were unearned. After not committing an error in game one, Shenandoah had five game two miscues.

Jordan Davenport (6-3) pitched the complete game to earn the nightcap victory. She scattered four hits and struck out three.
