ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team snapped its seven game losing streak Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 USA South Conference victory over Peace College in a neutral site match played at NC Wesleyan's Scalf Field.
SU (2-7, 1-2 USA South) received a first half goal from sophomoreÂ
Katie Bowers and second half tally fromÂ
Tiffany Johnson to down the Pacers (2-7, 0-4).
Bowers' goal, the eventual game-winner, came just five minutes into the contest when she lofted a deep shot from the right corner over the out-stretched arms of PC keeper Emily Stewart. Stewart, however, recorded four saves in the period to keep the Hornets advantage at just 1-0 when the two teams headed to the halftime lockerroom.
Peace played with a sense of urgency in the second half as they took five of the session's first six shots. However, Shenandoah keeperÂ
Megan Clark protected the lead by making three crucial saves.
Johnson added the insurance goal in the 82nd minute off of a deflected corner and the final eight minutes passed without either team getting a serious opportunity on goal.
Stewart finished with seven saves, while Clark tallied five and earned the shutout in goal. The Hornets out-shot the Pacers 21-11 on the day and held a slight advantage in corner kicks at 8-7.
