WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University recorded its first softball win of the 2007 season Friday afternoon with a 10-2 non-league victory over visiting Frostburg State.

Unfortunately for SU (1-5), the Bobcats (3-3) came back to win 2-0 in the nightcap. This is the third straight year that the two teams have split a doubleheader.

Leading 4-2 heading into the sixth inning of the lid-lifter, the Hornets ended the contest four outs early with a six-run frame. Coach Marlena Kotynski's club sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning and sophomore Kristen Templeton ended it with two-run single to left center that scored both Alicia Sanders and Brittany Bailey .

Shenandoah banged out 11 hits in the game one victory to make a winner of freshman AJ Lekki (1-2). Lekki went the distance in earning her first collegiate victory - she allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Lekki did not walk a batter and struck out two.

Unfortunately, Lekki's mound mate, Katie Haskins, was a victim of a lack of offensive support for the third straight time in the nightcap. Haskins (0-3), who had already lost 1-0 and 2-1 decisions this season, allowed just one earned run on seven hits against seven strikeouts in the complete game effort. However, her offensive teammates left eight runners on base in the contest, including seven that reached scoring position.

Shenandoah placed runners in scoring position with less than two outs in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings but was unable to get a run across against FSU pitcher Katelyn Coffey. Coffey scattered eight hits and struck out three to earn the shutout victory.

Sanders led the Hornets offensively with a combined three hits while sophomore Catherine Beuerle was 2 for 3 with four RBI in the opener.
