WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 14 in the nation Christopher Newport University held Shenandoah University to seven hits in each game to sweep a USA South Conference softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
CNU (25-6, 10-1 USA South) was a 6-1 winner in the opener before taking the nightcap, 9-1, in six innings.
Shenandoah (11-5, 4-8) led game two, 1-0, by scoring a single run in the third, but the Lady Captains ended the game early by scoring three in the fourth, four in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
The Hornets scored their only run when seniorÂ

For Christopher Newport, Katie Moyers went a combined 7-for-8 with an HR and three RBI with Margit Severin and Kristin Nickloy both getting three hits total.
