BURLINGTON, N.C. - Shenandoah University ended Averett's softball season Friday afternoon with a 5-1 victory in the elimination round of the USA South Conference Tournament at Springwood Park.

Shenandoah (14-20) now meets NC Wesleyan on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. in another elimination contest. The winner of that game gets the winner of Greensboro and Ferrum, which also takes place at 9:00.

Shenandoah advanced into the third round of USA South Conference Tournament play for the third consecutive year when Jolisa Jones started a two-out rally with a walk before moving to third on a Catherine Beuerlesingle.

Kristen Templeton then singled to drive in Jones with Beuerle moving to third base. Templeton stole second base before Katie Haskins reached on an error to load the bases. Beuerle and Templeton both scored before AU was finally able to stop the bleeding.

Haskins (6-12) and the Hornet defense was able to keep the Cougars off of the scoreboard through three innings, but Averett found some offense in the fourth with a little help from a few Shenandoah fielding miscues. SU had two errors along with a pair of wild pitches that led to one Cougars run.

SU extended its lead to 5-1 in the top half of the fifth when Beuerle plated a single to right-center field to knock in Alicia Sanders and Brittany Bailey . Both players got on base with singles to lead off the frame.
