WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed the most successful softball season in school history Saturday afternoon by sweeping a non-league doubleheader from Hood College.
Shenandoah (19-21) was a 5-0 winner in game one before taking game two 5-1. Hood (9-15) was held to just a combined seven hits in the twinbill.
SophomoreÂ
Katie Haskins (8-14) tossed a one-hitter in the opener - she struck out a career-high 16 batters to post her fourth shutout of the season.
Haskins missed by just a fifth-inning double to throw the third no-hitter in program history. Christine Harvey got that hit for the Blazers, but she was stranded on third base as Haskins got two strikeouts and a flyout to end the threat.
Offensively,Â
Alicia Sanders ,Â
Jolisa Jones and Haskins all had two hits, with Haskins plating the game-winning run on a first-inning single.
The Hornets made quick work of game two as well - they scored two hits in each of the first two innings to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
Hood managed a single run in the fourth off of freshmanÂ
AJ Lekki (9-6), but Haskins tossed a perfect sixth and seventh to earn her third save of the year. Lekki scattered six hits and the one run while striking out four in 5.0 innings.
Haskins was again the story offensively by getting two hits in three at-bats and driving in another game-winning run. She also had a triple.
