DOVER, Del. - No. 2 Wesley College ended Shenandoah University's most successful men's lacrosse season in school history with a 24-4 win in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament semi-finals Wednesday afternoon.
Wesley (10-6) scored the game's first six goals to take a lead it would not relinquish against the Hornets (9-4). Prior to this spring, Shenandoah had not won more than five games in any of its previous 14 men's lacrosse seasons.
SeniorÂ
Justin Ratcliff broke the Wolverines scoring run with a goal off of aÂ
James Gonzalez assist with 40 seconds to play in the first quarter, but this would be as close as SU would get.
WC answered the Ratcliff tally with seven of the eight goals scored in the second quarter and cruised home to the victory.
AfterÂ
Dennis Cox opened the second half scoring with a goal at 11:39 of the third, Shenandoah did not score again untilÂ
Stephen Mayorcompleted the score sheet by finishing another Gonzalez assist with 54 seconds to play.
Wesley scored 11 goals in between those two SU tallies, with Rob King getting five and six others scoring once.
Ratcliff had the visitors other goal, at 3:22 of the second. He finishes his final season in an SU uniform with a 46 goals and 19 assists for 65 points. Both his goals and points marks are new school records.
WC outshot Shenandoah 61-11 for the game, including 32-2 in the first half. They also held a 55-40 advantage in groundballs and won 17 of 31 faceoffs.
