Women's Tennis Stops Squirrels

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University snapped its two-match USA South Conference women's tennis losing streak with a 7-2 win over visiting Mary Baldwin Tuesday afternoon.

Shenandoah (5-5, 2-3 USA South) jumped out to a 4-0 lead by winning the Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6 singles matches.

After the Fighting Squirrels (1-8, 1-5) got three-set victories at Nos. 3 and 5 singles, SU clinched the match with an 8-0 win from Aliisa Altau and Brittany Bascope at No. 2 doubles.

Bascope was a double winner for the Hornets as she and sophomore Briana Malley won the top two singles matches for the Hornets at love.

The singles matches were played first due to the weather forecast.

Shenandoah is back on the court on Friday at Peace College.
