ASHLAND, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team earned
its first two victories of the 2010 softball season Saturday
afternoon with 4-1 and 1-0 non-league wins over Randolph-Macon.
Shenandoah (2-2) was a 4-1 winner in the opener before taking
the nightcap 1-0.
The losses were the first two of the season for R-MC (4-2).
In the opener, SU scored two runs in the first and two more in
the third to provide sophomore Brooke Over all of the
offense she would need.
Over (1-1) tossed a complete game, scattering six hits, five
walks and the one run against eight strikeouts.
Junior Jolisa Jones was 3
for 3 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in while senior Lauren
Wall matched Jones' RBI production with one swing - she
made it 4-0 with a two-run HR in the third.
Jones drove in her two runs with a first inning double to left
center.
In the nightcap, freshman Amanda Litwin
won a pitchers duel by scattering three hits (all singles) in the
complete game performance.
Litwin, 1-1 on the year, did not allow a hit after the second
and retired the final 15 in order.
Renoula
Jones scored the only run of the game when she led off the
third with a single to right, was sacrificed to second and then
came all the way around to score on an error by Jackets second
baseman Kelly Beard.
Shenandoah is back in action Sunday with a non-league
doubleheader against Guilford at Great Bridge H.S. in Chesapeake,
Virginia.
