BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Host Bridgewater College used the long ball
Tuesday afternoon to key a non-league softball doubleheader sweep
over Shenandoah.
Bridgewater (23-8) was a 10-4 winner in the opener before taking
game two 8-1.
Shenandoah (18-15-1) led the opener 2-0 thanks second
inning RBIs from Lauren McCabe and Denise Mitchell, but the
Eagles countered with two runs in the third, two more in the fourth
and six in the sixth.
Junior Jolisa Jones provided the Hornets penultimate run with a
solo HR in the fifth.
Sophomore Brooke Over (10-7) was charged with the loss after
allowing eight runs on eight hits and two walks in 5.0 innings.
Freshman Ashley Stegemiller pitched the final inning.
A four-run Bridgewater third provided the hosts with all of the
offense it would need in the nightcap.
Jones scored the team's lone run by doubling down the left
field line in the third, moving to third on a passed ball and
then scoring as part of a double steal with Renoula Jones.
Freshman Amanda Litwin (8-8) gave up eight runs (five earned) on
seven hits and three walks in the complete game outing. She had
five strikeouts.
Jolisa Jones had two of the team's four hits.
Shenandoah begins USA South Tournament play on Friday with a
game against third-seeded Methodist.
