Softball Shuts Out Meredith

BURLINGTON, N.C. – Shenandoah University continued its run through the loser's bracket at the 2010 USA South Conference softball Tournament with a 2-0 elimination game victory over Meredith College Saturday afternoon at Springwood Park.

Shenandoah (21-16-1) scored one run in the third and another one inning later to end the season for the Avenging Angels (22-17).

SU scored the initial run of the game by combining a hit batter, a stolen base and an Ashley Plaugher RBI to make the score 1-0 after three.

Hornets pitcher Brooke Over received an insurance run on inning later when Catherine Pruiett plated Samantha Robson with a two-out single to center. Robson had drawn the two-out base on balls and stole second base to put herself in scoring position.

As it turned out, Over didn't need the extra support as she tossed an eight-hitter to improve to 11-8 this spring. Over struck out five and walked three in the complete game performance.

The win puts Shenandoah into a 4:00 loser's bracket semi-final against Ferrum. The Panthers rallied in the bottom of the seventh to eliminate Methodist, 6-5.
