FROSTBURG, Md. - Shenandoah University earned its first two
tennis wins of the fall 2010 season Saturday afternoon by sweeping
a men/women doubleheader against Frostburg State.
The SU men were 6-3 winners while the Hornet women won 5-4
despite having to default at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Both teams are now 1-1 this fall.
In the women's match, Shenandoah rebounded from having to
default the two matches by winning 8-6 at both Nos. 1 and 2
singles.
Now tied at 2-2, SU clinched by winning at Nos. 2, 4 and 5
singles.
Senior Denise Myrick and
freshman Carla Wong were
both double-winners for the Hornets.
Wong combined with Briana Malley at
No. 1 doubles before dispatching Megan Martin 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2
singles.
Myrick was 6-4, 6-0 winner over Jill Farrester at No. 4
singles.
In the men's match, Shenandoah took a 2-1 lead after the doubles
before winning at 1, 3, 4 and 6 singles to clinch.
The final singles victory came via forfeit.
Julian Fehr
was the only double-winner on the men's side. He paired with Paul
Froeschle to win at 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4
singles.
The SU men are back in action next weekend at the ITA Regionals
while the women host Southern Virginia on Thursday in a non-league
match.
