LYNCHBURG, Va. - Shenandoah University split its soon-to-be-annual tennis battle of the Hornets with Lynchburg College Wednesday afternoon.
The SU women (3-1) were 5-4 winners while the Hornet men (0-4) fell 8-1.
Jakob Curtis was the lone winner for the men, winning 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 5 singles.
In the women's match, Lynchburg (2-4) took a 2-1 lead after doubles, but Shenandoah won at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5 singles to steal the victory.
Carla Wong was the only double winner for SU. She combined with Shannon Allin to win 8-1 at No. 1 doubles before posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles.
With the match tied at 4-4, Rachel Gross clinched it for Shenandoah with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at No. 4 singles.
Both teams continue this Spring Break trip tomorrow with 3:30 matches at Ferrum.
