WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's tennis teams completed their respective runs in the USA South Conference Saturday by splitting matches with visiting Averett University.
The Shenandoah women (7-7, 4-5 USA South) were 9-0 winners over Averett (0-14, 0-9) while the SU men (0-12, 0-6) lost by the same score.
The Shenandoah women dominated in doubles, sandwiching a pair of 8-1 victories at Nos. 1 and 3 around an 8-3 triumph at No. 2.
Shannon Allin brought the Hornets to within one match of clinching by winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 before her doubles partner, Carla Wong, won 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the match.
Rachel Gross won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and Kelsey Brewster 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 after the match had been decided.
Ilana Rozin won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 and Kayla Green 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 in the final two matches of the day.
The closest men's match came at No. 5 singles, where Jakob Curtis fell 6-3, 6-3 to Julius Noreila.
The SU men are off until the USA South Conference Tournament beginning on Friday. The women host Southern Virginia Monday in a non-league match.
