ASHLAND, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's tennis teams began their run of spring break matches Tuesday afternoon with a pair of losses to Randolph-Macon.
The SU women (2-2, 0-2 ODAC) fell in a 5-4 heartbreaker while the Hornet men (1-2, 0-1) dropped an 8-1 decision to the Yellow Jackets.
Freshman Will Leach was the lone winner for the men. Leach defeated Jody Cox 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The Hornet women held a 2-1 lead following doubles thanks to wins at Nos. 2 and 3, but saw the 'Jackets win at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6 singles to steal the victory.
Rachel Gross was the lone double winner for the women. She combined with Amber Lake to win 8-6 at No. 3 doubles and then was a 7-5, 6-3 victor at No. 5 singles.
Kayla Green and Amy Rapp won the No. 2 doubles match, topping Oly Ogunshina and Caty-Betz Holcomb 8-4.
Molly Barb rounded out the winners, topping Courtney Owens 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
The two teams are back in action tomorrow at Virginia Wesleyan.
