Tennis Sweeps Ferrum

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University tennis teams snapped a pair of losing streaks Thursday in winning non-conference tennis matches versus former USA South Conference foe Ferrum College.

The SU women (3-3) were 7-2 winners over the Panthers while the Hornet men (2-3) won 6-3.

In the women's match, Shenandoah took a 2-1 lead following the doubles over Ferrum (1-4) before clinching the match by winning the top five singles contests.

Sophomore Kayla Green had the match-clinching victory for the Hornets, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Shannon Allin, Molly Barb, Rachel Gross and Amber Lake all were double winners for Shenandoah.

Allin and Barb combined to win 8-4 at No. 1 doubles before Allin won 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 1 singles and Barb 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.

Gross and Lake were 8-3 victors at No. 3 doubles.

Gross then won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and Lake 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.

In the men's match, the Hornets found themselves down 3-1 following the Panthers winning at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles and No. 1 singles, but rallied by winning the final five singles contests.

Vladimir Daskalov clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

Shenandoah returns to the court tomorrow at Roanoke in another ODAC match.
