WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's tennis teams had a perfect day Friday in posting a pair of 9-0 non-league victories over Southern Virginia.
The SU men (3-7) dropped just two games in sweeping the three doubles matches while the Hornet women (5-7) had a 2-0 lead before even stepping on the court due to SVU having to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Senior Michael Milanov combined with Steven Baker to win 8-0 at No. 1 doubles before defeating Pradeep Ravisankar 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Baker was a 6-1, 6-2 victor at No. 2.
The match clinching victory came at No. 3, where Jeremy Parel was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Andrew Angerbauer.
Staked to the 2-0 lead in the women's match, Shenandoah wasted little time in taking out the Knights.
Both doubles matches, won by Shannon Allin and Molly Barb at No. 1 and Amber Lake and Rachel Gross at No. 2, came by an 8-4 score.
Like the men, the women clinched with a win at No. 3 singles. Freshman Amy Rapp defeated Mina Romito 6-2, 6-2 to give the Hornets their second straight victory.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow at Stevenson.
