Women's Tennis Takes Out Hood

WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University opened up its 2014 spring women's tennis season Saturday night with a 9-0 non-league victory over Hood.

Shenandoah (1-0) swept the three doubles matches by identical 8-2 scores before clinching the win over Hood (2-4) with victories in the top three singles matches.

Sophomore Molly Barb had the match-clinching victory with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Olivia Hosch at No. 1.

Shannon Allin, who had combined with Barb at No. 1 doubles, got the singles victories started with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2.

Amy Rapp was also a double victor, winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles after she and Caitlin Tilton were victorious at No. 3 doubles.

Rachel Gross, Amber Lake and Alayna McEathron played at Nos. 4 thru 6 singles with Gross winning 7-5, 6-2, Lake 6-1, 6-1 and McEathron 8-5 in a pro-set match.

The squad is now off until hosting Washington and Lee in its ODAC opener on March 9.
