WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team returned to its winning ways Friday afternoon with an 8-1 non-league victory over Ferrum.
The Hornets (2-1) had a 3-0 lead even more the match started as Ferrum (0-6) was forced to default at Nos. 5 and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
SU then made quick work of the match, getting an 8-1 victory from Molly Barb and Shannon Allin at No. 1 doubles as well as Rachel Gross and Amber Lake winning 8-2 at No. 2.
With the outcome assured, coach Larry Hubbard shuffled the lineup, bumping up his Nos. 3 through 8 singles players by two spots each and giving Barb and Allin the rest of the afternoon off.
Amy Rapp, now playing No. 1 singles, closed out the victory witha 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-2) win in the final match of the day.
Lake won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 and Cierra Neidermeyer was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at No. 4.
Shenandoah is back in action tomorrow at noon in a non-league match against Division II Shippensburg University.
