Women's Tennis Downs Raiders

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team earned its second win in less than 24 hours with a 7-2 victory over Division II Shippensburg Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (2-1) opened with a three 8-6 wins in doubles before clinching the victory by winning two of the top three singles matches.

Sophomore Molly Barb, who combined with Shannon Allin to open the day by taking out Julia Saintz and Brittnee Buckey in the top doubles match, was a 6-0, 6-3 victor at No. 1 singles.

Junior Rachel Gross, at No. 4 singles, had the match-clinching victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Katie Shearer.

Gross and Amber Lake won at No. 2 doubles with Caitlin Tilton and Amy Rapp winning at No. 3.

Rapp and Lake were double winners, winning their Nos. 3 and 5 singles matches in straight sets.

The women return to action with a road match at Southern Virginia on Wednesday.
