LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team took another step forward in its goal to earn an ODAC Tournament berth with a 7-2 win over Lynchburg Sunday afternoon.
Shenandoah (8-3, 3-3 ODAC) surpassed last season's overall and ODAC win totals with the victory over Lynchburg (2-7, 1-6).
SU took a 2-1 lead into singles after earning 8-2 and 8-1 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles and then clinched the win by sweeping the top five singles matches.
Sophomore Amy Rapp had the match-clinching victory with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3.
The other four singles victories came in straight sets. Shenandoah's only singles loss came at No. 6, where Caitlin Tilton was forced to default due to injury midway through the first set.
SU hosts Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday as part of an ODAC doubleheader with the Shenandoah men.
